The classic indoor floor standing drinking fountain is a rectangular box with a push button bubbler valve which when pushed projects a jet of chilled water upwards for the user to drink from directly. It can also be optionally fitted with a glass or bottle filler which is operated by a push tap. The customer can opt to have filters installed inside the device but in schools and gyms in the UK they are often installed without filters to reduce servicing costs and increase flow rate. Most users cannot tell the difference between filtered and unfiltered water when it is chilled to below 10 degrees.
The heavy duty steel used in our drinking fountains makes them a lot more robust than an office type water cooler. They also have the advantage that the user does not need a cup so that additional costs and waste can be avoided. They do not have a removable drip tray which can get lost and needs frequent emptying and cleaning. Instead they have a drain which is connected to the drainage system in the building. They can also be made in vandal resistant style for harsh environments.
Drinking fountains like these are much more common in the USA than Britain where their significant advantages over bottle coolers have been recognised for many years. We strongly recommend this type of system for any institution or business which has large numbers of users in public areas or is a harsh environment such as a factory, garage, foundry, canteen or similar.
