The four most common problems with water in the UK are taste and odour, limescale, bacteria and particulate/sediment. Check out the below to see how to identify and solve these problems efficiently.
Taste and Odour:
A funny taste in water is normally caused by chlorine. Chlorine and other chemicals are added to mains water during municipal treatment. This is in order to disinfect water and to prevent it from picking up germs during transit.
There is no real risk of consuming water which has chemicals used to disinfect it. Although unpleasant, it is not harmful to the body.
We would suggest investing in a bottled water cooler or a water filter. This means you can be provided with odourless and better-tasting water. Find out more here.
Limescale is a hard chalky deposit that forms when water is heated. It is seen commonly found on the end of taps or in the bottom of a kettle. Once it has formed it is extremely hard to remove unless you use an acid descaler to dissolve it.
There are no threatening health risks that occur when we consume limescale. Although it can be very damaging to our utensils and water pipes.
Preventing limescale is far easier than trying to remove it. By investing in a reliable water cooler or drinking fountain with a water filter you will dramatically reduce limescale build up. Find out more about purchasing a
Harmful forms of bacteria are very rarely found in mains water due to municipal treatment, however, in some areas of the UK where people use wells, streams or boreholes harmful bacteria can be found.
In extreme cases, outbreaks of E.Coli and Legionella occur when harmful bacteria gets into the water.
The main way to get rid of bacteria in water is through ultra-fine mechanical filtration or through U.V sterilisation.
Particulate / Sediment
Particulate describes solids in your water and generally falls into one of two categories: sediment and turbidity. This is not common in municipal water but in private water supply can often be found.
Particulate and sediment in water can be harmful to our health. It can also be detrimental to equipment and can block up pipes.
The best way to remove sediment or turbidity is through mechanical filtration.

At Pressure Coolers, we like to keep on trend with what is happening in the world of water. That’s why when we read about this new study, we were eager to share it with our readers. The topic of the day: Is it really necessary to drink 8 glasses of water a day?
Here’s What We Found Out
A new study that took place in Australia has now proven that it is unnecessary to drink eight glasses of water a day and there is no scientific evidence to prove this theory.
Many people believe that this theory was created in 1945 by the Food and Nutrition Board which stated “People need to drink 2.5 litres of water a day (8 glasses of water)” but failed to mention that most of this quantity is contained in prepared food.
Media in this day and age like to exaggerate how much water humans need to survive and often don’t point out key elements to theories. There is no formal recommendation for a daily amount of water that people need. This amount will differ from person to person, depending on what you eat and how much exercise you do. However, please do remember that drinking water is a vital part of our day and helps to restore cells and keep vital organs functioning in the body!
Luckily, Pressure Coolers has you covered when it comes to drinking water throughout the day. We stock a range of innovative office water coolers, fountains and bottle filling stations. Perfect for all sectors of business.

At Pressure Coolers, we sell and rent a range of water coolers and drinking fountains to customers across the UK. One of our bestselling builds are our outdoor drinking fountains. But what makes them so ideal for certain sectors in business?
Outdoor drinking water fountains are perfect for educational sectors such as schools and leisure sectors such as outdoor gyms and sports centres where access to water outside is a complete necessity. They are plumbed into the mains water supply meaning there is always a constant flow of water available.
Outdoor drinking fountains are a great way to encourage people to drink water, especially in schools. Many studies prove that children do not drink enough water in schools so by giving them constant access to clean drinking water, you will be giving them the ability to keep hydrated. We all know that the more hydrated you are the higher your concentration and productivity levels.
Bottled water coolers are not always an ideal option for all environments as the price of bottled water verses the high quantity of water that is needed can be financially challenging. By purchasing a water fountain for your business, you will be saving money by not continuously purchasing bottles of water.
Outdoor drinking fountains are trusty and reliable workhorses which require very little maintenance compared to other hydrations solutions.
At Pressure Coolers, we offer a range of outdoor drinking fountains including floor standing drinking fountains and wall mounted drinking fountains, which come in a variety of contemporary styles and colours.

The United Nations’ World Water Day is coming up in a few days. This important day promotes access to clean drinking water for everyone across the globe. Each year events are organised on 22 March to increase people’s awareness of the importance of water in the environment, agriculture, health as well as trade.
Worldwide, 783 million people do not have access to clean and safe drinking water. This translates to one in nine people who are not able to access safe and clean water which is an alarming figure when you think about it.
Events that take place during World Water Day includes visual art, theatrical and musical celebrations of water. Sports competitions are also held which includes the likes of swimming as well as local river and lake excursions. Campaigns and fund raising events are also held to raise money for ways to improve clean water access rates as well as promote awareness of clean water by protecting worldwide water sources.
As part of the Agenda 21, World Water Day was created as part of a worldwide plan for areas where human activities affect the environment. In December 1992, the United Nations’ General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring that 22 March would be World Water Day for the rest of the years to come. Developed and developing countries alike were encouraged to engage in activities to highlight international needs for water. Ultimately, leading to the first Word Water Day being held in 1992.
Here at Pressure Coolers, we recognise the importance of the need to promote both access and preservation of clean drinking water for all people across the globe. We see World Water Day as a positive step towards the realisation of this.
