Did You There Are Two Types Of Dispensers?
Bottled Water Cooler
A 19-litre or 12-litre water bottled sits normally on top of the water cooler. Water then flows into the cooler and is fed into separate chilling and heating reservoirs. Water is then dispensed through the appropriate taps. This is the type of water cooler you will find in most office spaces.
Mains Water Cooler
This type of water cooler is also known as a plumbed in water cooler as it is directly connected to the mains water supply. These models can have water filters installed to rid the mains water of any impurities or contaminants.
Bottled water coolers and mains water coolers also come in floor standing or counter top models. Counter top units are smaller than floor standing models, but still have the same capacity as the larger versions.
Water Cooler Temperatures
Most water coolers come in two options – cold and hot or cold and room temperature. Water coolers with hot options often maintain a temperature between 89°C and 92°C for safety reasons.
Water Cooler Capacity
Water coolers come with different cooling and heating capacities. In order to understand the capacity of a water cooler suppliers use cups per hour.
Understanding the drinking water demand of your office or staff will help you determine what type of water dispenser is ideal. Mains water coolers generally have a higher chilling and heating capacity compared to their bottle fed counter parts. But don’t be fooled by a bottled water cooler’s capacity!
Water Cooler Designs
Water coolers have come a long way from their traditional white simple design. Nowadays, you can find modern designs that come with numerous functionalities.
Did You Know You Can Purchase Or Rent A Water Cooler?
Each comes with their benefits. You will need a lump sum of money for a once off purchase but from then on, it’s yours. Where if you rent, you pay a small amount every month and never have to worry about the maintenance or servicing of the machine. You can even upgrade your water cooler at the end of your contract or change water supplier.

Children are prone to dehydrating quicker than adults and can lose fluid through sweat, fever, vomiting and diarrhoea. It is vital that you spot the signs of dehydration as it can be severe and in some cases life-threatening.
How To Spot The Signs Of Dehydration
The following signs could mean your child is dehydrated:
• More than 5 hours without urinating
• Dark yellow urine
• No tears when crying
The following signs could mean your child is severely dehydrated:
• Hands and feet feel cold
• Lightheaded or dizziness
• Sleepy or irritable
• Sunken eyes
What Do I Do If My Child Is Dehydrated
Children can become dehydrated extremely quickly, that’s why when you spot the signs of dehydration you need to move fast. Electrolyte liquids are a great way to rehydrate the body. If you are near a pharmacy take your child to seek medical advice. If you happen to be on the road or nowhere near medical help, try and get your child a sports drink. These are often a good way to rehydrate quickly.
If your child is severely dehydrated, take them to the closest hospital, it is most likely they will need and IV tube until rehydrated.
How Can I Prevent Dehydration
Make sure your child drinks plenty of fluids, especially when they are unwell or if the weather is hot. Try to avoid fizzy drinks.
Be alert and look for the symptoms especially if your child:
Has a fever:
Keep your child hydrated with ice cold drinks. Try to give your child ibuprofen to bring down their temperature.
If it is a very hot day or your child has been doing lots of activities then you will need to increase your child’s intake of fluids.
If your child has a stomach bug or food poisoning they will lose fluid at a scarily rapid pace. Stay away from flavoured drinks and encourage your child to drink lots of water.
Keep your child drinking small amounts of water at a time. Even a teaspoon every 15 minutes is fine.
Is Refusing To Drink:
A sore throat or cold can stop children from wanting to drink. Give your child a pain killer to help and offer liquids often. Cold liquids may be soothing but avoid citrus drinks, like orange juice and grapefruit juice.

Children between the ages of 9-12 should be consuming 7 glasses and ages 13+ should be consuming 8-10 glasses of water per day.

The four most common problems with water in the UK are taste and odour, limescale, bacteria and particulate/sediment. Check out the below to see how to identify and solve these problems efficiently.
Taste and Odour:
A funny taste in water is normally caused by chlorine. Chlorine and other chemicals are added to mains water during municipal treatment. This is in order to disinfect water and to prevent it from picking up germs during transit.
There is no real risk of consuming water which has chemicals used to disinfect it. Although unpleasant, it is not harmful to the body.
We would suggest investing in a bottled water cooler or a water filter. This means you can be provided with odourless and better-tasting water. Find out more here.
Limescale is a hard chalky deposit that forms when water is heated. It is seen commonly found on the end of taps or in the bottom of a kettle. Once it has formed it is extremely hard to remove unless you use an acid descaler to dissolve it.
There are no threatening health risks that occur when we consume limescale. Although it can be very damaging to our utensils and water pipes.
Preventing limescale is far easier than trying to remove it. By investing in a reliable water cooler or drinking fountain with a water filter you will dramatically reduce limescale build up. Find out more about purchasing a
Harmful forms of bacteria are very rarely found in mains water due to municipal treatment, however, in some areas of the UK where people use wells, streams or boreholes harmful bacteria can be found.
In extreme cases, outbreaks of E.Coli and Legionella occur when harmful bacteria gets into the water.
The main way to get rid of bacteria in water is through ultra-fine mechanical filtration or through U.V sterilisation.
Particulate / Sediment
Particulate describes solids in your water and generally falls into one of two categories: sediment and turbidity. This is not common in municipal water but in private water supply can often be found.
Particulate and sediment in water can be harmful to our health. It can also be detrimental to equipment and can block up pipes.
The best way to remove sediment or turbidity is through mechanical filtration.
